Richard A. Hughes, "Richie", 76, passed away March 22, 2025. He was the husband of the late Carrie P. (Inch) Hughes. Born on July 17, 1948 in Harrisburg, Pa, he was the son of the late Lester S. and Margery Hughes.
Richie loved being a stand holder at the West Shore Farmers Market; he was there for 55 years selling fruits and vegetables. He loved everything about racing. He raced at Susquehanna (now BAPS Speedway) and won two championships at Silver Spring Speedway where he holds the title for most feature wins. Richie enjoyed going to church, hunting, fishing, mowing the grass. He loved going out on the boat with his cousin Ralph Hughes Jr. He also enjoyed riding around and going to work with JR. Richie liked traveling with his wife, Carrie. They went on several cruises and traveled to Florida with her family. He enjoyed playing cards in his younger years and loved when people visited. Most importantly, Richie loved being with his family, especially spending time with his grandsons.
Richie leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Amy Jo Franco (husband, Federico) and Margery M. Mellott (husband, the late Thomas "Tommy" Mellott); grandchildren, Richard "Richie" T. Mellott and Gabriel "Gabe" Franco; sister, Faye M. Harro; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by son in law, Thomas Mellott, brother, Elwood Hughes and his wife Valeda Hughes and brother in law, Clair Harro.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Parkville Bible Church, 800 Whisler Rd Etters, Pa 17319. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Frank Heidler officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Parkville Bible Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made in Richie's honor to Parkville Bible Church. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
